Florida Remote Online Notarization requires knowledge-based authentication (KBA) and credential analysis.
Log in at least 1 hour before your session to make sure you have enough time to complete the authentication and enter the session.
You will need:
✅ An unexpired government-issued Photo ID
(If it's a Real Estate Loan Signing, you may need 2 ID's, check with your lender or title company)
✅ Ability to answer identity verification questions (KBA)
If KBA fails, you may need to reschedule, per Florida Statute §117.295(3)(a)
✅ Clear camera and microphone access
✅ All documents are filled out except for signatures
(Florida notaries cannot help fill out or interpret documents)
If you need to update an ID, visit the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) the day before your appointment: https://www.flhsmv.gov/
Same-day visits to FLHSMV may cause delays of several hours.
While smartphones work, a laptop or desktop provides:
✅ Larger buttons and easier navigation
✅ More stable audio/video
✅ Fewer disconnections
To allow the online notary to prepare:
✅ Upload documents a few hours before the appointment
✅ Ensure documents are fully completed except for signatures
(If a real estate loan signing, in most cases, the notary will have all documents from the title company. If not, you will need to upload the documents, unsigned. You will complete and sign documents before the notary. However, it is important to review the loan package prior to meeting with the notary to ensure you understand the documents and refer questions to the lender and title company.
Additionally, make sure the documents have your name spelled correctly, and you have required information on hand, such as Home Owner Insurance Company details, banking information for deposits and automatic payments - wire routing numbers and account numbers, etc.)
✅ Review accuracy ahead of time
Remember, Notaries cannot help fill in or interpret documents.
Certain documents require witnesses, such as:
✅ Wills
✅ Healthcare directives
✅ Durable power of attorney
✅ Deeds
Witnesses must:
✅ Bring unexpired government-issued Photo ID
✅ Be present the entire signing
✅ Not be named in the document they are witnessing
You may reference Florida witness guidelines here:
(Scroll to sections related to witnessing.)
Also, see our FAQs relating to IDs, Signature Witnesses, and Credible witnesses as a form of ID.
Choose a setting similar to an in-office appointment:
✅ Quiet room with no background noise
✅ Good lighting
✅ No TV, pets, or interruptions
✅ No multitasking during the signing
✅ Silence all cell phones
If you cannot operate your device during the session, the appointment must be rescheduled.
Before the session:
✅ Test your microphone and speakers
✅ Ensure a strong Wi-Fi connection
✅ Make sure your device is fully charged
✅ Close extra tabs or apps to prevent performance issues
Even though you’re signing from home:
✅ Dress appropriately
✅ Sit up and stay in frame
✅ Be attentive
✅ Follow all prompts clearly
This helps ensure the notarization is valid and recorded properly.
